1) The Students: Those who just need the right information and are able to implement the changes immediately with hardly any resistance or challenge. They have great internal discipline established that is not dependent on immediate results but rather long-term effectiveness. Their demeanor is cool, calm, collected, and emotionally regulated. They don't apply emotional meaning to their body weight, food logs, or anything really.
They use the data they have to make the best decisions. They develop a solid structure of eating and moving with built-in flexibility and zero judgement or shame. They can eat a more indulgent meal and get right back to balanced eating right afterward. They can go on vacation and not exercise for a week and get right back into training upon arriving back home without any story of their lack of self worth. The Students are the rarest wellness archetype we meet.
2) The Perfectionists: Those who needed the right information and are able to implement the changes immediately but are not able to sustain them. These are high achievers who attach value and self-worth to being perfect. They are the all or nothing, work hard play hard, on or off types. They let numbers, data, and achievement impact their entire day. They often try to do things to the extreme to get faster results, which always backfires. Their emotions can swing from the highest highs to the lowest lows. They have the structure - maybe too much - but they struggle with flexibility and moderation. Historically, they jump from one fad diet to another, one workout plan to another, always searching and looking to fill a void.
This can show up in many other areas of their life, from relationships to work. They get bored easily, are always looking for the next hottest trend that is going to fix everything, and think: it's not working, I'm doing it wrong, or I'm a failure. They are busy bodies that often get caught up in their thinking mind, completely disconnected from their feeling bodies. The more they stay busy and occupied, they less they have to sit with the deafening discomfort of presence and silence. They have a hard time accepting compliments. They rarely take ownership when things are going well, they downplay their wins, and they tend to place blame on themselves when they feel like they are "failing". They often have negative self talk and are hyper critical.
By week 6 in our program, they usually have a life-changing discovery that snaps them into full awareness. They realize that they have been in go-mode for years (maybe forever) and start asking questions about everything they do. They have one of the greatest opportunities for a massive transformation, not just physically but mentally and spiritually. We work with The Perfectionist archetype the most.
3) The Empaths: Those who needed the right information but are not able to implement even the smallest of changes. They usually suffer from unhealed Trauma and/or unconscious lifelong conditioning that often leads them to blame and project upon others without taking ownership of their life experience. They get overwhelmed easily because of their overactive sympathetic systems that are stuck in fight / flight / flee freeze mode in which they cannot listen objectively. They attach meaning and stories to most things.
They have huge, empathetic hearts. They are sensitive souls and often people pleasers who are greatly impacted by their environment (from physical location to actual people). They activate their go-to trauma response which is flight for many of them; these are the ones who try to quit after a few weeks. Like Perfectionists, these types can also have the greatest opportunity for a full transformation if they can get out of their own way. They need a safe space to open up and be vulnerable but they also need a guide who will help them take ownership of their feelings and everyday decisions, establish strong boundaries, and stop letting outside circumstances dictate their life. We work with The Empath archetype as often as The Perfectionist.
