To be more specific, Mark, we calculate your:
1. BMR (basal metabolic rate): how many calories you burn a day at rest. This is directly impacted by the amount of muscle mass that you have.
2. TDEE (total daily energy expenditure): how many calories you burn a day in total, taking into account any exercise, non-exercise activity, muscle mass, and the food you eat (yes, eating food - especially certain types of proteins and carbs, requires additional clarifies just to metabolize it).
3. MACROS (macronutrients): how many carbs, proteins and fats you need at each meal, each day, each week, etc. in addition to water and fiber.
4. Optimal meal timing and spacing: this is so important and also what many apps / software cannot provide. You need to find a style of eating that is both optimal for your health and goals AND that works with your unique lifestyle and schedule. This can, and will, change over time depending on your living situation, if you're caring for others, your activity levels, your age, your hormones, etc.
Then, once you have the baseline understanding of what your body requires in different circumstances and practice that over and over, you'll eventually be able to move into a more intuitive way of eating.
In other words, the discipline and structure of balanced blood sugar, adequate macronutrients (especially protein), and proper fueling around exercise allows your body to relax into a naturally robust, healthy metabolism that allows for more flexibility with eating.
You'll be so in tune with your body, listening with intention to the subtle requests for different foods instead of feeling overwhelmed by cravings.
Your healthy eating habits will soon be on autopilot.
Grocery shopping is a breeze.
Pizza (without ANY guilt) is a weekly staple.
Meal prep requires so much less brain power because you're not relying on 48-ingredient complex recipes that leave your fridge full of forgotten produce in the back corners.
You'll often skip the salad when dining out because you're able to identify on the spot what 30 grams of protein looks like from all those yummy entrees you've been avoiding for years.
You’ll practice these new skills over and over for 12 weeks until you master it and apply it for life.
You’ll get immediate biofeedback from your body (and your coach) letting you know if and how to adjust anything.
Then, you can move onto intuitively eating in the most balancing and nourishing way, with or without tracking, for the rest of your life.
If you've had a health goal in mind this year and haven't started yet, the time is now.
Don't wait until the last minute when you're a week out from a beach vacation before taking action. Your body deserves more than another crash diet.
