Question of the Week:
"My knees hurt when I squat. What am I doing wrong with my form?"
While there are many factors contributing to knee pain while squatting and performing other movements, some of the common causes we see are from:
- under-exercising (lack of movement, not enough walking, muscle atrophy, sarcopenia, etc.)
- over-exercising (repeated stress on the knees from intense training modalities like running)
- increasing weights too quickly without sufficiently developed quad muscles to support the load
- insufficient mobility warm-up and working sets that ramp up to heavier weight
- under active glutes from excessive sitting
One of our favorite ways to practice squatting with proper form is front loading the weight in the goblet squat.

If you've been following us for a while, you know that we're sticklers for proper form while lifting weights.
Why? Because mastering movement patterns with bodyweight only first before adding load is a great way to avoid potential injury. And we intend to be moving well into old age!
Proper form also makes a difference when it comes to efficiently developing muscle mass vs. going through the motions as quickly as possible without actually engaging the muscles intended to be trained.
This ensures that you're getting the biggest return on your investment of spending valuable time doing each workout.
