In winter of 2022, my body started changing after turning 40, including what felt like unstoppable weight gain and an insatiable appetite.
Nothing had changed about my diet or exercise. So I assumed the inevitable...
Was entering peri-menopause?!
(Guys - you're going to want to read on because chances are you know someone who is going through this, too).
Mark, did you know that peri-menopause (the phase leading up to menopause during which some women experience stereotypical symptoms like hot flashes) can start as early as age 35 and last up to ten years?
There is no single, verified test to indicate that you're officially in peri-menopause.
All we can do is test for FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and assess our symptoms, including if we're still ovulating and getting periods.
Here's the thing:
Many women are getting tests done showing low or high estrogen + low progesterone and assuming they're in peri-menopause when really, they're not! They are suffering from imbalanced hormones that's impacting their cycles.
My FSH was normal and nothing changed about my cycle which ruled me as not in peri-menopause, so what the heck was going on?
