Hey,
Do you ever feel aches in the most random places after sitting at your desk all day?
Or perhaps you've been strength training regularly and your body is letting you know that it needs a different kind of movement...
Then it may be time for some mobility flow!
Check out this 30-minute full-body sequence that you can do anywhere, anytime:
Besides keeping our bodies strong, mobile, and flexible, it's also important to have an open mind, especially when learning something new.
One question that has been coming up regularly with our new members is: do carbs store as fat if you eat them at night?
We've all heard that warning from a colleague doing some drastic diet that eating bread after 7:00 p.m. automatically turns into fat.
Why people continue to trust unsolicited advice from unqualified people is beyond us, so we'll save that topic for another day.
Let's see if this one is true...
Drum roll, please...
NOPE!
You're still getting the same amount of energy (calories) from the donut regardless of timing.
What a relief it is to understand that eating food at night - especially carbs - is not going to magically get stored as body fat, contrary to what you may have heard. (SEE EXCEPTION NOTE BELOW).
Eating carbs at night can help you fall asleep due to the increase in tryptophan. This bumps up serotonin, making you calm, happy, and relaxed. Carbs really do = happiness!
Not to mention, your glycogen tanks (muscle, liver, bloodstream - where you store carbs) will be full and ready to rock if you love morning workouts ๐ช
Where did this myth come from?
1) Have you ever had a meal late at night, woke up the next day, weighed yourself immediately, saw the scale go up, and then convinced yourself you gained fat overnight? Impossible, unless you ate nearly 2,500-3,500 calories ON TOP OF your maintenance calories. What is the weight gain if it's not fat? It's WATER. And, undigested food. Your weight fluctuates for all kinds of reasons, including every time you eat.
2) Carbs breakdown in the body as glucose. An incredible benefit of glucose is the H2O that comes with it, which hydrates you further. Therefore, eating carbs late at night and waking up feeling fluffier could also just be a slight increase in water retention... water, you know that life-giving, all-important macronutrient.
Exception: if you're binge eating a massive carb-heavy meal late at night, especially if it includes alcohol, that's a different story. In other words, if you consume more carbs than your body can store in its muscles, liver, and bloodstream, then yes, those carbs can move into fat storage. For the sake of this lesson, we're talking about a simple donut here.
That being said, we love stacking most of our food and calories earlier in the day to benefit from all-day energy and reduce nighttime cravings.
Eating very low calories during the day or skipping meals entirely usually backfires at night when the hunger gremlin comes out!
We are all about:

“It is true that insanity is defined by doing the same things and expecting a different result. I have been on a lot of "diets" and excessive cardio routines over the past 20 years and have never really been able to sustain the results, either by loss of motivation or just simply by exhaustion.
Your 12-week program has really helped me understand the value (and the science behind it) of proper nutrition (read: it's not just about the calories!), balanced meals, and the importance of hydration.
The reset my body went through was really amazing - it was great to be in touch with how good and balanced I feel when I nourish my body properly and adequately. I have never felt deprived or felt that I was pushing myself too hard (not sustainable for me). This has been the gentlest program with the most drastic result I have seen my body go through.
I didn't have to change a lot of things on my diet, which was nice, but the tweaking of how much in each meal (macros) was a true game-changer. I always feel satisfied after every meal, and look forward to the strength training exercises (because they are SO good).
The 1-1 coaching was so helpful in honing in the knowledge from the course and really reigning in on the information given there, to apply to MY everyday life. It was great to know I can lean on someone for support who understood the hectic schedule of a mother of very young children. The hacks she shared with me will serve me way beyond this program!”
